A dietitian on staff

Hi! I’m Janice Cox, new Registered Dietitian at Byerly’s Ridgedale. I joined the Byerly’s team in July and have been getting oriented to all things Lunds and Byerly’s from touring the Distribution Center and seeing how the beautiful produce is carefully selected and delivered to the stores to observing the sushi makers working their art and best of all, meeting the wonderful Lunds and Byerly’s employees and customers.

A little about me – I have been a Registered Dietitian since graduating from the University of North Dakota in dietetics. I have worked in hospitals and clinics as a dietitian. For several years I worked on human nutrition research studying such things as hypertension, weight loss, women’s health issues, and cholesterol. I’ve done extensive nutrition counseling and have taught classes on many health and nutrition related topics. I’ve worked for medical nutrition and wellness companies. My background is diverse but the focus throughout my career has always been about nutrition and I am happy to bring my rich experience to Byerly’s. Simply, my passion is people, especially people who are working on their healthy eating and lifestyle skills.

Supermarkets around the country are hiring on-site dietitians because of the realization that there is a relationship between what people purchase and healthy eating. What better place to have a nutrition expert but at the location where people may be struggling with making healthier choices, need help with reading labels or finding foods that fit their special diet needs? Having an on-site dietitian is a tremendous benefit to customers to help them navigate the 60,000plus items in the store and shop more healthfully.

Many people have seen a Registered Dietitian at a hospital or clinic and have received excellent information. Having a dietitian in the store takes that education a step further to put what they’ve been instructed into practice to help clear up any shopping confusion and answer additional questions as they are shopping.

When I introduce myself to customers, their response is “We have a dietitian in the store? Wonderful! I can use help with…..(such things as ) eating lower sodium, my diabetic diet, lowering my cholesterol, healthy eating, eating gluten free, sports nutrition…..” and the list goes on.

So how can I help you? Send me an email, respond to this blog, call me at 952-541-1414 or come visit me in the store – my office is next to Byerly’s Pharmacy at Ridgedale.

Watch this blog for future nutrition events at Byerly’s Ridgedale and for other health, wellness and nutrition topics.

I’m looking forward to meeting you!

Hi Janice! I am looking to shadow a dietician in this setting, I am a senior dietetics major at the College of St. Benedict. I was wondering if I could plan a time to meet with you or another dietican at a Byerlys location. I live in Apple Valley so when I was on a break from school this year I would love to come visit if that would be okay. Thank you for letting me know!
